The Gatehill Estate has been designated an Area of Special Local Character by Hillingdon and this designation is explained in:

Hillingdon Special Local

Preserving the special nature of the Gatehill Estate for the benefit of all Residents is a priority for the GRA. The Gatehill Estate is the only undeveloped area in the north of the Borough. It occupies a special place in the Borough and it is recognised that keeping the Character of the Estate “Special” is important.

Building extensions to a home in England and Wales is subject to the overall rules set by the Government and these are set out in:

Each Local Authority produces its own Local Plan giving the outline of their own plan for the Area and some details of the kind of Development Policies they will apply

Planning matters on the Estate are considered by Hillingdon council under a number of guidelines with particular reference to:

  •      – Its Area of Special Local Character
  •      – Neighbour impact
  •     – Trees and Landscaping
  •      – Flooding

If you are considering making an extension to your house, the Planning section of the GRA would welcome meeting you before your application is submitted. It is advisable as well to discuss your proposals with your neighbours.  The Committee makes a point of reviewing all planning applications considering their impact on neighbouring properties and for the Estate.
